Armament
Hughes was developing the Mach 6 GAR-9 Falcon missile, later renamed the AIM-47A, especially for the LRIX project. The new radar and infrared-guided missile would have a range of about 80 km (50 mi). XAIM-47As had been built, and some of the technology was used by Hughes to develop the AIM-54 Phoenix long-range air-to-air missile for the US Navy.
