Background and Draw

The FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT), formerly known as the FIBA World Championship for Women, was renamed in 2006 to qualify teams for the Olympic Games.

The draw to determine the final composition of groups for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Basketball Tournament was held in June 2008.

Women's Tournament

The women's tournament was held from August 9 to 23, 2008, at the Beijing Aolinpike Lanqiuguan, also known as the Olympic Basketball Gymnasium.

Teams and Results

Twelve teams competed in the women's tournament, with the United States winning the gold medal, Australia taking silver, and Russia earning bronze.

Men's Tournament

The men's tournament took place from August 10 to 24, 2008, at the same venue as the women's tournament.

Teams and Results

Twelve teams also participated in the men's tournament, with the United States defending their title and capturing their fourteenth Olympic gold medal. Spain won silver, while Argentina claimed bronze.
