FC Twente Book Their Place In The Champions League
Dutch Side Reach Group Stages After Narrow Victory
FC Twente have booked their place in the group stages of the UEFA Women's Champions League after a narrow 1-0 win over ŽNK Osijek in the second leg of their qualifying tie. The Dutch side had won the first leg 3-0, so they went into the second leg with a comfortable lead.
However, Osijek made a game of it in the second leg, and they pushed Twente all the way. The Croatian side had a number of chances to score, but they were unable to find a way past Twente's goalkeeper, Daphne van Domselaar.
Twente's goal came in the 55th minute, when Kerstin Casparij scored a stunning goal from outside the box. The goal was enough to seal the victory for Twente, and they will now take their place in the group stages of the Champions League.
Joran Pot Delighted With Twente's Victory
FC Twente manager Joran Pot was delighted with his side's victory, and he praised his players for their performance.
"I'm very proud of my players," said Pot. "They showed great character and determination to win this game. We knew that Osijek would be a tough opponent, but we never gave up. We created a number of chances, and we deserved to win."
Pot also praised the performance of goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar, who made a number of important saves to keep Osijek out.
"Daphne was excellent today," said Pot. "She made some great saves, and she kept us in the game. She is a very important player for us, and I'm delighted with her performance."
FC Twente will now be hoping to make an impact in the group stages of the Champions League. They will be competing against some of the best teams in Europe, but they will be confident that they can cause an upset.
